There are 4 uses for this window.
- Change which area of the Mandelbrot Set or a Julia Set is being viewed. To do this, change the X and Y values for the centre of the image.
- Change the Magnification of the image being viewed. As you change the Magnification, this changes how small an area around the image centre is viewed. This is, therefore, how you set the co-ordinates for the four corners of the region you wish to view.
- Change the Resolution of the image being viewed. Change the value to the number of pixels you want along the largest dimension. E.g., if you have just found an interesting area of the Mandelbrot Set using a Resolution 160×120, and you wish to enlarge the image to use it as a Desktop Wallpaper, change the Resolution to 800. The Resolution of the image will then change to 800×600 (aspect ratio being preserved), and the Magnification will increase accordingly. Note that the Resolution will always be an exact multiple of 8, so the number you enter may be rounded up.
- Change the Maximum Dwell. When you first start Mandelbrot Explorer, this is set to Automatic. There will rarely be a need to change this manually. To do so, enter the figure you want. To return to Automatic, just delete whatever figure is currently set, and Automatic mode will resume.
At any time, you can click “Revert to Current Image” to undo any changes and revert to the image that is currently displayed. You can also click “Revert to Whole Set” to revert to the entire Mandelbrot Set or Julia Set. None of these changes actually take effect until you return to the main application window and click on “Draw Next”.
